Re-extracts titles / artists / albums for tracks containing the
U+FFFD replacement character (the diamond ),
left behind by the old tracker / chiptune header decoder. Mostly
affects SID / NSF / SPC / MOD / S3M / IT / XM files.
Cached WAV / FLAC files generated by SID, MIDI, tracker, and DSD/ALAC transcoding. Bigger cache → more instant replays + smoother playlist look-ahead. When the cache fills, oldest entries are evicted automatically.
Default 4096 MB (4 GB). Range 256 MB – 100 GB. Lowering the limit evicts the oldest entries immediately; raising it just gives future renders more headroom.
"Clear transcoded only" reclaims DSD/ALAC/AIFF disk without losing the slower-to-regenerate SID, MIDI, and tracker renders.
Background work the server does for retro and Amiga tracks. Saved as soon as you change it; applies to every user.
Point at the HVSC DOCUMENTS/ folder (download from
hvsc.de)
to upgrade every SID track with per-subsong durations and STIL commentary.
Leave empty to use the default-duration estimate.
Chip and filter options passed to sidplayfp. Changes apply to future renders immediately (no restart); tunes already in the render cache keep their old sound until re-rendered.
Optional absolute paths for the chip-music engines. Leave a field empty to auto-discover the binary on PATH. Saving applies immediately and re-checks Renderer Status above.
An automatic copy of the library index, refreshed whenever the server starts and the index loads cleanly — a restore point if the live index is ever damaged. To restore it by hand, see the deployment guide.
Transcode & SID/MIDI/tracker render cache lives under — has its own fill bar + size config + selective clear.
Crossfade, preload buffer, “Converting…” notice delay, “Let shuffle repeat tracks you’ve heard” and theme are saved in this browser only. Everything else here is a server setting and applies to every user.
How much the server logs. Applies immediately — no restart. The
HTTP access log records one line per request; a 404 there is
usually a placeholder for a track without cover art, not an error.
Animated overlays in the player, library and admin panels. These are a per-device preference and apply immediately. If your system requests reduced motion, all animations stay frozen regardless of these switches.
Optional network services SoniqBoom exposes on the LAN. Disabling a service removes it from the network entirely (404 to clients). Changes take effect on the next server restart.
Point any Subsonic-compatible client at SoniqBoom — your library, playlists, and play history sync automatically.

Apps that sign in with a token (salt + hash, which many Subsonic apps use by default) work with your SoniqBoom password too. You can optionally generate a separate Subsonic app password (token apps must then use it) or an OpenSubsonic API key for apps that support keys — both are under My Account below.
1.16.1 / OpenSubsonic
Tracks with no album tag (typical of SID, tracker and chip archives) are listed in Subsonic apps as albums named after their folder. A folder shared by many artists, such as a compo pack, becomes one album per artist; letter folders (A, B … or A-F) are grouped per artist under their parent folder and named after it, so an artist gets one album for the whole archive, not one per letter. Turn this off to reach them only by browsing folders.

Align your library with the canonical retro-music databases. Exact or confidence-gated matches fill empty fields. Two options guess instead — the game from a Modland file name and the album from a folder name — and the albums they add are marked in Track Info. Tags in your files and anything you typed are never overwritten.
Lyrics are fetched online (LRCLib, with a fallback source) when a track has none embedded, and shown in the track's Lyrics tab.
High Voltage SID Collection song-lengths & STIL notes for your SID tunes. (The HVSC documents path is set under Renderers.)
Match your modules against Modland's nightly MD5 index to fill in scene authorship, the game (as the album) & provenance (the "Scene origin" row in track info). Credits and game folders come from exact checksum matches; the option below can also guess the game from a Modland file name. Tracks indexed before v1.4.0 need a rescan to get checksums.
Match your modules against the song database of the audacious-uade player to fill in empty artists, labels (publisher or group), albums (the game or production), years and many song lengths. Only exact checksum matches are used; a production name that several groups used carries the group, e.g. “Megademo (The Silents)”. Tags in your files and anything you typed are never overwritten.
Data: audacious-uade-tools by Matti Tiainen, compiled from about 400 scene sources, licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. It is downloaded from GitHub when you click Download.
A retro track inside an archive takes the archive’s name as its game when that name is a known game of the track’s platform — “Turrican.lha” for Amiga TFMX tunes, “Super_Mario_World.zip” for SNES SPC rips. An archive holding just one tracker module or SID named like it (“axelf.mod.zip”) is skipped. A retro track’s game comes, in this order, from its file’s own tags, Modland, Demozoo, the song database, a Modland file name, the archive name and, if you turned it on below, the folder name.
Included: game titles from Wikidata (CC0), No-Intro, the MAME software lists (CC0) and ZXDB (ODbL). More titles can be downloaded from TOSEC (home computers: C64, Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, CPC, MSX …) and Redump (disc consoles: PlayStation, Saturn, Dreamcast …); they are fetched only when you click Download or Update. The downloaded files are kept in SoniqBoom’s data folder: a removed list is added again from them without downloading, an update downloads the TOSEC pack only for a newer release, and a stopped Redump download continues where it stopped.
Modules and chip tunes rarely carry an album. Optionally, a retro track without one can take the name of its folder or archive.
SPC, NSF/NSFe, GBS and VGM/VGZ files and PSF-family rips (PSF, USF, GSF, 2SF, SSF …) carry their game's name, which is shown as the album and the game; these files are read once automatically (a network share after its next completed scan). Other music files (MP3, FLAC, M4A, Ogg, Opus …) can carry a GAME tag, read when they are scanned. This reads again the chip-music files whose game has not been read from the file yet, and every other music file's GAME tag; from an FTP or SMB share, an MP3, FLAC or M4A file is read only as far as its tags where the file allows it (files inside archives are read whole). It fills empty albums, replaces albums taken from a folder, a Modland name or the song database, updates games, and refreshes the other details read from those chip-music files (such as titles); albums and games you typed are never changed.
Match each retro composer against Demozoo's demoscene database to tag the scene group(s) they belonged to (e.g. Fairlight • Maniacs of Noise). Used to surface music by the same collective, and shown in track info. Matches the composer's name and scene handle; ambiguous names are skipped, never guessed.
External links — each card opens an archive in a new tab. SoniqBoom does not auto-ingest from these. Download what you want, drop it in a scan directory, and the renderers (sidplayfp / libgme / openmpt) handle playback. HVSC metadata + Songlengths wire in via the HVSC panel in Settings.
Want a real remote-source ingest of one of these? Open an issue with the FTP / HTTP listing format and we'll plumb it through the FileSource backend.
Where the newest scene music lands — party music-compo entries and fresh uploads. Same flow as above: download into a scan directory (scene.org also exposes FTP, so a remote FileSource can point straight at it).
